From the time both teams arrived in Doohoma for this re-scheduled Round 1 Sweeney Cup clash it was clear the decisive factor on the day could well prove to be the wind. And so it proved, with the only score either team could muster against it, a second half Bonniconlon goal giving the visitors a well deserved single point win.
In near hurricane conditions Kiltane had our attacks repelled either by the wind or disciplined Bonnoconlon defence throughout the whole of the first half, while also conceding 1-6 often from the most freakish occurrences seen at the ground.
There were 46 minutes gone in the game before we registered our first score when we were then 2-6 to nothing down. Pat Deane provided the finish as he palmed a wind assisted pass over the crossbar. From there to the finish it was a race to claw back the deficit with Goals from Mikey Sweeney and Tommy Conroy as well as frees from Adam Carabine and John Reilly certainly making it a tense finale.
Next up in the North Mayo Divisional competition is an away game on Sunday February 24th, with Knockmore due in Doohoma seven days later.
